William (W.S.) Sherman McBeath, 95 of Crowell, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2019.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 17 th , 2019 at Western Trail Cowboy Church. Interment will follow at the Crowell Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m., Sunday, June 16 th at Womack Manard Funeral Home.
Sherman was born October 20, 1923 in Thalia Texas, to James Lamar and Effie Mae (Booth) McBeath. He was a graduate of Thalia High School, and married Reba Bartley on December 26, 1948 in Crowell, Texas. She preceded him in death on January 17, 1970. Sherman was in the U.S. Marine Corp and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. After discharge from military service, he was elected as Foard County Sheriff, becoming the youngest sheriff in Texas. Later, he became employed with the Liquor Control Board, which eventually became the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Sherman worked his way up through the ranks, starting as an agent, then becoming Superintendent, then Assistant Chief, and finally retiring in 1991 as the Administrator of TABC. During his tenure with TABC, the family lived in Paris, Amarillo, Wichita Falls, and Austin, before returning to Crowell.
Sherman was a Mason and a member of the Thalia Methodist Church.
He is survived by a son: Sidney Rhea McBeath, and wife Theresa, of Liberty Hill, Texas; a daughter, Malinda Moore, and husband Rusty, of Crowell; 5 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
