Obituary

Don Welch, 79, of Crowell, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 18, 2021 in Fort Worth. A funeral service is planned for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 23 rd at the First Baptist Church in Crowell. Rev. Terry Tamplen and Dr. John Chapman will officiate. Interment will follow at Crowell Cemetery under direction of Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5-6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Crowell.

Thomas Don Welch was born October 3, 1942 in Tahoka, Texas to Jack and Elizabeth Milburn Welch. He was a graduate of Crowell High School in 1961. He attended and graduated from Texas Tech University and received a Masters of Education from Abilene Christian University. He married Martha Kay Waldrip on June 10, 1967 in Knox City, Texas. Don was a member of First United Methodist Church in Crowell, where he taught Sunday School.  He was also a member of the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, President of Greenbelt Water Authority, was active in Foard County Stock Show and enjoyed all things agriculture. He retired after 33 years of teaching Agriculture but continued farming and ranching.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Kay Welch of Crowell; 2 daughters, Mitzi Welch Howell of Crowell and Mandi Welch Chapman, and husband John, of Ennis, Texas; 4 grandchildren, Melani Elizabeth Howell, Laura Grace Howell, Jay Chapman, and Payton Chapman; 2 sisters, Betty Ann Ingham of Prague, Oklahoma, and Peggy Jan Halsey of Midfield, Texas.

The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity.
