Obituary

On October 8, 2019, at the age of 80, Printiss Ray Gidney passed away and went to his new home with the Lord.

A funeral service is planned for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Crowell. Rev. Chris McLain will officiate with interment to follow at Crowell Cemetery.

Printiss was born on May 15, 1939 in Crowell to Geneva Irene Athey Gidney and the late Robert Printiss Gidney. Printiss grew up in Foard County and graduated from Crowell High School in 1958. He went on to attend Ranger Junior college, where he held the record for many years in football for making the most yards and touchdowns in a single game. He graduated from from West Texas State University.  He became a beloved teacher and coach at Crowell High School. On June 7, 1974, he was married to Billye Bell Graves.

He also farmed and ranched, and enjoyed the outdoors. Especially fishing, hunting, gardening, and working on projects in his shop. He was saved at an early age, and attended the First Baptist Church in Crowell.

Printiss leaves behind his wife, Billye Gidney of Crowell; children – Steve and Liliana Graves of Cedar Park, Texas, Brenda Graves Hammond and Blake of Colorado City, Texas, Beth Graves Tarter and Glenn of Wichita Falls, and Jody Graves Wood and David of Crowell; mother, Geneva Athey Gidney of Crowell; one brother, Charlie M. Gidney of Vernon; one sister LaRue and Lewis Templeton of Vernon; 33 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Printiss "Shorty" Gidney on December 26, 1993, and one great granddaughter, Vanessa Tyra on May 24, 2018.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Crowell Cemetery Association.
