Joyce was a talented artist-creative with a keen eye for detail and a childlike sense of wonder throughout her life. She embraced interesting and different people while eschewing those who are pompous or snobby. She was at home in a quiet simple environment and was overwhelmed by needless noise and excess. Often hesitant and unsure, but decisive when you'd least expect it. At times completely unbudgeable.

She wasn't afraid to start her life anew in her seventies, she saw it as a grand adventure.

She was practical and had a powerful thirst for knowledge.

Joyce was a loner who relished the solitude of nature but was never lonely as long as there were plants and creatures about.

Her accomplishments were many. She taught 3rd grade when there was a teacher shortage. She got a degree in Art History from the University of Arkansas. She raised two daughters, got her pilot's license, was a Girl Scout troop leader, studied German language at Oklahoma State University. She was a talented photographer and artist, winning awards at the Ponca City Art Shows. She created beautiful flower gardens that brought joy to many. Her love of nature inspired others to stop, listen, observe, and appreciate the world around them.

Despite having been raised in rural Texas and Arkansas without even an indoor toilet, she took advantage of opportunities to travel to New Zealand, Mexico, China, Norway, Ireland, Germany, and many other European countries.

The last decade of her life was especially fulfilling for Joyce. Moving back to Crowell, where her maternal and paternal grandparents lived and farmed in the 1920s gave her a special feeling of community and connection to her ancestors. "Out walking in the pasture" was where Joyce most loved to be- under the vast blue skies, in the sunshine and warm breeze, meandering among the mesquite and wildflowers, keeping a sharp eye out for interesting rocks, feathers, and bones. She found such happiness and peace in her life here in Crowell.

She was loved by many.

You can take the girl out of Texas, but you can't take Texas out of the girl.

Survivors include her two daughters, Jeanne Ann Mitchell of Portland Oregon, and Betty Anne Hargraves (Jeff) of Ponca City, Oklahoma; 3 grand- children, Morgan Mitchell and Danny Sims, Elias Huff, and Hannah and Nathaniel Huff; a great granddaughter, Tully Moon Sims; and good friend, Tiburcio Hernandez of Crowell.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Morgan; and a sister, Lewzetta Gloyna.
