Hilda Medeiros Cabral, 93, passed away May 3, 2022.  A graveside service is planned for Friday, May 6, 2022 at the Crowell Cemetery. Pastor Larry Ellis will officiate. Smith Funeral Home will be open Thursday, May 5, 2022, 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. and Friday, May 6, at 8:00 am.

Hilda Cabral was born January 4, 1929 in New Bedford, Mass. to parents Jacintho Machado and Mary Eugenio Medeiros.  She was the youngest of 4 sisters and 5 brothers.  Hilda and George Machado had one son Alfred born February 19, 1944. He preceded Hilda in death on August 2, 2008.  Out walking home from work, Hilda was followed home by policeman John Cabral.  Asked why, he said that he thought she was going to jump off a bridge.  After that introduction, she and John Cabral dated, married April 13, 1963, and moved to White Settlement, Texas.  In 1980 they moved to Crowell, Texas.

Hilda worked at the Crowell Cap Factory, then did home health for a number of families.   Elton and Bernice Carroll's family were her adopted Crowell Family.   She was active in the Eastside church of Christ and was still driving to church before her illness and move to the Crowell Nursing Home.

Hilda is survived by one sister, Lillian Nelson Pimental, numerous relatives, and Crowell friends who will always remember her baseball hats and her peeping over the steering wheel as well as her Portuguese accent.
