Henry "H.L." Ayers, 90, of Crowell, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday morning, January 21, 2025.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Margaret Methodist Church, with interment to follow at Crowell Cemetery.

H.L. was born on May 9, 1934, in Foard County, Texas, to Henry Leroy "Roy" Ayers Sr. and Rosalie Hlavaty Ayers. He married Thelma Henry on December 23, 1960, in Vernon, Texas. Together, they raised two sons and a daughter.

H.L. proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict at the Missile Base Detroit Arsenal. He was a dedicated farmer and held a variety of roles in his career, including security supervisor at North Texas State Hospital in Vernon and principal of the Gilliland School District.

He was deeply committed to his community and church. He served as a trustee at Margaret Methodist Church and was a past president of the Farm Bureau. He was also a past Master of the Crowell Masonic Lodge, where he was a member for over 50 years. Additionally, he was a member of the Soil and Water Conservation District and Gateway Groundwater District.

H.L. is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Thelma Ayers of Crowell; two sons, Jerry Ayers and wife Victoria of Arlington, Texas, and Lance Ayers of Margaret, Texas; a daughter, Susan Borchardt and husband Ricky of Margaret, Texas; a sister, Mary Wilkinson of Denver, Colorado; two grandchildren, Shane and wife Kristy Borchardt and Kelsey Borchardt; and one great-grandchild, Wade Borchardt.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Francis Cooper.
