Obituary

Helen Davis, 90, passed away early Thursday morning, February 17, 2022 in Crowell. A funeral service is planned for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 23 rd at the First Baptist Church in Crowell with Rev. John Holley officiating. Interment will follow at Crowell Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-6 p.m., Tuesday evening at Smith Funeral Home.

Helen Rutherford Davis was born in Knox County on July 27, 1931 to the late Jesse and Irene Traweek Rutherford. She lived in Knox and Foard County all of her life. She was a graduate of Gilliland High School and went on to attend Texas Tech University in Lubbock. She married Cecil Reed Davis on July 31, 1954 in Crowell, where they raised two sons. Helen was employed at Crowell State Bank for many years and after her retirement, she and Cecil enjoyed traveling this great country in their 5 th wheel. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Ester Sunday School class where she also worked in the nursery, and served on the Bereavement Committee, for many years.

Survivors include her son, Wade and his wife, Jymann (Hokanson) Davis of New Braunfels; a brother, J.B. Rutherford of Sulphur Springs; and 2 sisters, Hattie Danley and Del Crume of Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Davis in 2017; a son, Donald Reed Davis in 1977; 2 sisters, Benita Langston and Eva Jayne Wright; brother J.T. Rutherford; and an infant son.
