It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Faye Carroll, our beloved Mother.  She was MeeMaw to her grands and a friend to all who knew and loved her.  She peacefully slipped into the arms of her Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at the Crowell Nursing Center.  She was in her 85 ^th year of life.

The fourth child born at Antelope Flats to Homer Marion Black and Eleanor Mathews Black, she joined her siblings Howard Lee Black, Sidney Ray Black, and Nettie Herring.

Faye was educated in the Truscott and Crowell school systems.  She married her high school sweetheart, Billy C. Johnson, on December 19, 1952.  They resided in Oceanside, CA during his service in the US Marine Corps.  Following his honorable discharge, they returned to Texas, made their home in Thalia and engaged in farming.  Faye was employed as the Rayland Gin Manager and later worked for the Lockett Seed Company for many years.  Following Billy's tragic death in 1979, she moved her home to Crowell.  Children include Debbie (David) Dunham of Westland, MI; Don (Stephanie) Johnson of Vernon, TX.  Grandchildren include Tyson (Jon) Foerster of W. Bloomfield, MI; Tara (Josh) Scripko of Canton, MI and Christopher (Kayla) Dunham of Allen Park, MI. Great grandchildren include her namesake Finlee Faye and Amos Scripko along with Noah and Walker Dunham.  She valued Carrla Todd as her dearest girlfriend.

Richard S. Carroll and Faye married on November 24, 1984 and made their home in Mannford, OK for 18 years before returning to Crowell.  Richard preceded her in death on August 24, 2007.  Her step-children include Scott (Dwana) Carroll of Erskine, MN; Stuart (Kathy) Carroll of Shoreham, NJ; Sarah (Kevin) Ball of St. Louis, MO; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crowell, District 2, Section 6, Order of Eastern Star Grand Chapter of Texas, Crowell Rotary Club, Bridge Club, 42 Club and a past member of the United Methodist Church in Mannford, OK and the Mannford Garden Club.  She loved people and entertaining and operated the Waltz On Inn bed and breakfast for several years.  She was quick to volunteer to take friends to their appointments, to host meetings and events and is known to surprise students with notes of encouragement.  Many graduating senior classes were hosted in her home for a 'formal' dinner night complete with all the extra table settings.

All who loved her will never forget her tenacity, wit, charm, grace, ability to tell it like it is and her undying love for them.  Anyone who knew Faye knew of her love of music, dancing, tennis, card and domino games, as well as playing pranks on the unsuspecting.  Her grandchildren were accustomed to being goosed in the ribs and claim she taught them to play gin rummy as soon as they could sit up at the table and talk.

She was a master cook and delighted in having a table full of guests, especially after church on Sundays.  Many will remember her infamous Dr. Pepper cake and may have been privy to the recipe.  She was a gifted musician and served as pianist for the First Baptist Church of Crowell, the United Methodist Church in Mannford, OK and for many civic groups and school functions.  In her later years, she often played church hymns and delighted residents at Eagle Flats and the Crowell Nursing Center by being able to take requests without any music present, even through her struggle with severe dementia.

We would like to thank the staff of the Crowell Nursing Center for taking such good care of our Mom.  Though she could be a pistol at times, she loved each one dearly.
