Elsie Vecera, 98, passed away Saturday evening, April 27, 2024 in Crowell. A graveside service is planned for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday May 1st at Crowell Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-7, Tuesday, April 30th, at Smith Funeral Home.

Elsie Dorthy Machac was born August 6, 1925, in Foard County to Charles and Millie (Coufal) Machac. She attended schools in Foard County and Vernon College. She and Fred Vecera were married January 1, 1947 in Paducah. She lived her entire life on the farm and started working at Crowell Nursing Center when it opened in 1975. She was a member of Margaret Methodist Church; and always put her family first. Elsie enjoyed cooking, baking, and gardening.

Survivors include her daughter, Paula Harris of Crowell; son, Fred Vecera, Jr., and wife Jo Ann of Crowell; grandchildren, Brian Harris and Christal of Weatherford, Lezlie Carroll and Michael of Crowell, Jason Harris of Wichita Falls, Trey Vecera and Heidi, and Jennifer Ownbey and Josh of Canyon; and great grandchildren, Kelly Carroll, Colby Carroll, Cooper Carroll, Beau Harris, Haleigh Harris, Wyatt Harris, Brandt Harris, Audrie Harris, Ethan Vecera, and Maya Vecera.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Vecera, in 1983; a brother, Charlie Machac; 3 sisters, Stella Hrabal, Mildred Machac, and Viola Crosnoe; and son-in-law, Bill Harris.

The family suggests memorials be made to Margaret Methodist Church or Wilbarger Humane Society in Vernon.
