Elbert Eugene Hembree passed away Thursday, March 26, 2026, in Wichita Falls, Texas.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at First Assembly of God in Crowell, with visitation from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

Elbert was born March 27, 1938, in Dimmitt, Texas, to Robert William Hembree and Lillie Pearl (Boone) Hembree. He married the love of his life, Virginia Mae "Honey" Holmes, on November 24, 1956, in Plainview, Texas.

He was a faithful member of First Assembly of God and a man who deeply enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors. Elbert dedicated 28 years of service as a firefighter with the Plainview Fire Department before retiring. In addition to his public service, he was a skilled master carpenter and worked as a foreman for numerous construction companies, leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship and hard work.

He is survived by his son, Nathan Hembree and wife Patricia of Amarillo; his daughter, Shelley Staggs and husband Scot of Wichita Falls; five grandchildren, Dylan, Savannah, Kelisha, Jessie, and Chynna; thirteen great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Kamrie, Samuel, Kayden, Astyn, Kason, Kyndell, Chevee, Hadassah, Ezekiel, Kye, Rosalyn, and Evie; one great-great-grandchild, Yazmine; and two sisters, Mary Hembree Davis of Tennessee and Vickie Agnes Branscum of Plainview, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, "Honey" in 2023; and two brothers, Roy Hembree and Billy Hembree.

The family suggests memorials be made to First Assembly of God in Crowell.
