Edith Alma Lewis Howard, 98, of Crowell, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2020.
A graveside service is planned for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 11, 2020 at the Crowell Cemetery in Crowell, Texas, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home. Rev. Jacob Cates, of Redeemer Christian Church, will officiate.
Edith was born on March 19, 1922 to Thomas William Lewis and Margie May (Porter) Lewis, in Mount Pleasant, Texas. She was a resident of Crowell since 1924. She was married to Emmett Dillard Howard on April 16, 1938 in Crowell. Prior to retirement, she worked as an LVN at the Vernon State Hospital, and was always a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Crowell. Edith loved working in her beautiful flower garden, and enjoyed quilting with her sister, Nancy Stone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dillard Howard; a son, Edward Howard; a daughter, Rheta Howard Brown; her parents; 4 sisters – Gladys Crosnoe, Nancy Stone, Thelma Henry, and Beatrice Rader.
Survivors include her children – Joyce Howard Hays of Seymour, Gerald Howard and wife Judy of Bonham, Judy Howard Cates and husband Ivan of Amarillo, Rhonda Howard Whitley and husband Lee Jay of Wichita Falls; 18 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be made to Seymour Rehab and Healthcare, First Baptist Church of Crowell, or Crowell Cemetery Association.
