Denton Werley, 84, of Crowell, passed away Wednesday morning, February 10, 2021 in Wichita Falls. A funeral service is planned for 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 15, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Crowell. Rev. Ron Fox will officiate. Interment will follow at Crowell Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m., Sunday evening at Smith Funeral Home in Crowell.

Denton Ray Werley was born August 13, 1936 in Chicota, Texas to Leaman "Jacky" and Alice (Woolf) Werley. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. Denton was married to Jannette Conaway, for 33 years, prior to their divorce. He married Wilma Cates in 2000. He retired from General Motors after 30 years; he owned two Comet Cleaners; and was a farmer. Denton always planted a large garden and kept it open to the community, allowing others to pick whatever they could use. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer Baker and husband Kevin of Crowell; grandchildren, Zachary Simmons, Sierra Alexis Rae Simmons, Morgan Shores-Baker Durham, Brittany Shores-Baker; great grandchildren, Jayden Delena and Braelynn Hinkle; a brother, Donald Werley; and 2 sisters, Mary Whetson and Carolyn Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Denton was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Werley; siblings, Rose Schultz, Geneva Haire, Raymond Werley, Jimmy Dean Werley, and Peggy Carrol; and a grandson, Matthew Shores-Baker.

The family suggests memorials be made to Crowell Housing Authority.
