Clark O. Hitt, Jr., 94, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2020. A funeral service is planned for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 15 ^th at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Crowell. Interment will follow at Crowell Cemetery. Visitation will be held, prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Clark was born June 5, 1925 in Swann, Texas to Clark O. Hitt, Sr., and Anna Mary Shank Hitt. He was a graduate of Lancaster High School and Howard Payne University. Clark enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944 and served during World War II in the Tenth Mountain Division. He was awarded several medals during his service, including a Purple Heart. He was married to Betty Jo Zeibig on December 19, 1947 in Crowell, and together they raised two daughters. Clark taught school and coached at Forney, Lancaster, Crowell, and then to Dallas, where he retired. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughters, Jennie Kay Carmichael, and husband C.E. of Sweetwater, Texas, and Cindy Jo Hitt of Dallas; 2 grandchildren, Stacie Kay Earnest, and husband, Keith, and Andrew Elijah Carmichael, and wife Allison; 4 great grandchildren, Riley Richardson, and husband Caleb, Kennedy Earnest, Cooper Carmichael, and McKenzie Carmichael; 1 sister, Mary Alyce Hogue of Midland; 3 sisters- in-law, Faye Statser of Vernon, Lois Hitt of DeSoto, Texas, and Petie Hitt of Alto Loma, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo, on March 9, 2016.
