Carolyn June
Looney
May 31, 1928 — Jan 12, 2019
Truscott
Lifelong Truscott resident, Carolyn June Hickman Looney, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, January 12, 2019, in Vernon, Texas. June was born in Truscott, Texas, on Wednesday, May 31, 1928, to Fred Guynn and Beryl Elizabeth (Roquemore) Hickman.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Newell Lee Looney; sister, Rachel Hickman Taylor of Farmer's Valley; brother, Charlie Guynn Hickman; and sister-in-law Lillian Settles Hickman of Paris, Texas. June was also preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Andrew Gray; and son-in-law, George Robert (Bobby) Becker.
June is survived by her three children: Lee Looney of Dalhart, Texas; Kay Looney Hardage, and husband Mike Hardage of Vernon, Texas; and Nancy Looney Becker of New Braunfels, Texas; 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; and brother-in-law Walter Carl Taylor of Vernon, Texas.
Whether working alongside Newell in the field and pasture, or cooking and taking a four course meal to the field during wheat harvest which usually consisted of chicken fried steak, gravy, mashed potatoes, pull apart bread, peach cobbler and sweet iced tea, as well as, a basin of soap and water, and a trifold table to hold it all. She also drove a small school bus that brought children living in the country to Truscott to catch the regular bus to Crowell. June was seldom idle. She taught Sunday school, led the singing, played the piano, stayed up at night finishing sewing an outfit, and regularly grabbed her shotgun to kill a rattlesnake on summer nights.
After all three children graduated from college, June was diagnosed with cancer. But the Lord saw her through the ordeal and opened another door of opportunity for her. Her insurance agent in Crowell, Ora Mae Fox, encouraged June to try selling insurance that had served her so well when she was diagnosed with cancer. She never looked back. She sold several types of insurance and would drive hundreds of miles to help others with their insurance needs. She won fabulous trips and had a wall full of sales awards. She loved helping people, having a good time, and laughing. They just don't make them like June anymore.
Funeral services are scheduled to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 15 th , in the chapel at Womack Manard Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Truscott Cemetery in Truscott, Texas.
June's family is thankful to the staff at Advanced Rehab and especially to Rosaelia Baca, RN, and Jennifer Ramirez, CNA, for their tireless, loving spirit of compassion toward their mother. We also thank Wilbarger General Hospital nursing staff, and Dr. Lehman, for their incredible care and attentiveness to our mother.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Truscott Cemetery, c/o Mike Carlson, 2010 CR 3600, Crowell, TX 79227.
